A Day In The Life Of A Roman - 28/04/2008

On Friday 25th April Year 5 spent a day as Roman citizens living in Britain and awaiting news of the Boudiccan revolt.

In order to set the scene and bring Latin alive the Year 5 Romans (all with their own Roman names) were greeted by Domina (Mrs) Brown, telling them in Latin about the celtic uprising.  Once fully immersed in time travel she explained to the pupils that they would be living the life of a typical Roman in Britain.

During the morning they worked at a variety of workshops including bread making, fresco painting, being scribes, making charms and producing oil for lighting lamps. In the afternoon they celebrated the defeat of Boudicca with a Roman banquet. Slaves prepared the feast and year 5 entertained everybody with dancing, marching and a play.

A big thank you to everyone who helped with the day, to the  parents of Year 5 for the fantastic Roman costumes and especially to those parents who came to help during the day. Everyone had a great time as well as learning what it was like to be a Roman living at this time.

The day was organised by 'History off the Page', for more details please see their website: www.historyoffthepage.co.uk
