Lydiard Park - 28/02/2008

Year 1 children thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Lydiard Park on 19th February

It was a bitterly cold day so the walk from the coach to Lydiard House was completed very quickly, rather than taking in the beautiful scenery!

At the house we were greeted by Lady Bolingbroke (education officer acting the part), who gave us all hats to wear and told us we were peasants, and only allowed to come through the back door! Important visitors such as Queen Victoria could come through the main door. We took to our roles instantly, curtseying and bowing in all the right places, whilst learning about life in the past at Lydiard House. Many children were then given the opportunity to dress up as Lords and Ladies, servants, cooks, gardeners and Vernon, the son of Lord Bolingbroke.

The children rose to the challenge of playing with Victorian toys and passed around historical artefacts, guessing what they were.

Lunch in the old stables was greeted with joy and gave us renewed energy to walk around the grounds and the lake, before returning to school.

The children learnt a great deal and all could recall many new facts they had learned the next day. Well done Year 1.
