Paralympic gold medallist talks to children - 28/02/2008

We were honoured to welcome Anne Dunham to speak to pupils and parents on Monday evening.

Anne has won 3 gold medals for dressage at the Atlanta, Sydney and Athens Paralympic Games and 4 World Championship gold medals, despite being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in her twenties.  The children were very interested to see her medals and hear her tales of life on the olympic circuit and were amazed by her achievements.  It was a particular thrill for Jess Mendoza and Lucy Rogers to meet Anne as they are such talented young equestrians themselves.

Anne is also very involved in her local branch of Riding for the Disabled, and Friends of Pinewood chairman, Julie Dyke was delighted to be able to give Anne a cheque for £1000 for the RDA.  This money has been raised by the school through the Friends of Pinewood events such as Bonfire Night, the Christmas Fair and Quiz Night, held over the past year.

Anne's next ambition is to be selected for the British team to go to the Beijing Olympics and we wish her every success.
