Pinewood Choral Society - 19/03/2008

Pinewood Choral Society soared to new heights with their performance of Rutter's Requiem and The Holy City in the Drawing Room on Tuesday night.

Seven wonderful instrumentalists (two of them home-grown) showed how less can be more with their beautiful accompaniment as the audience was taken from the despair of death to angelic, heavenly heights.  There wasn't a dry eye in the room when Jack Culshaw sang flawlessly and Sophie Kidwell was a voice from heaven; such talent in them both.  The Choral Society sang with caressing sensitivity or uplifting power when required and all under the expert baton of our maestro, Paul Auster (released specially for this event (!)).  The evening was brought to a rousing conclusion with a hearty rendering of The Holy City.  Many of the audience commented that they had been wonderfully entertained by a work with which they were not familiar, but had thoroughly enjoyed.
