Trombone & Piano Recital, Thursday 12th June, 7pm in the Drawing Room - 11/06/2008
All are invited to attend a recital given by Mike Lomas on the trombone and Anna Roberts on the piano on 12th June at 7pm (not 2pm as stated in the calendar) in the Drawing Room.
Mike Lomas BA PGCE Ph.D LRSM has studied trombone and sackbut with Mike Carton and Donal Bannister. Active on modern trombone across a swathe of southern England, he has also played sackbut with early instrument groups, such as the Bradford Baroque Band and the Welsh Baroque Orchestra. Dr Lomas is a brass tutor at Marlborough College, Dauntsey's School, Pinewood School and John of Gaunt School, Trowbridge and has had numerous successes at local and national level as both teacher and conductor. He will be teaching lower brass at Winchester College from September 2008. He has produced a number of published articles and a Ph.D thesis (as well as radio broadcasts) on the history of brass and wind bands in England.
Anna Roberts studied music at the University of Manchester and at the Royal Nothern College of Music, where she was taught by the distinguished painist and conductor, George Hadjinikos. Anna subsequently travelled to Iceland, where she became established as a pianist and teacher. On her return to England, Anna resumed her career in Shropshire, teaching at Shrewsbury School. Now with two teenage children, she lives at Dauntsey's School in Wiltshire, where her husband is headmaster. Anna teaches both at Dauntsey's and at St Mary's School in Calne, whilst continuing to appear regularly on the concert platform. Recent engagements have included concerts at the Salisbury and Corsham festivals as accompanist to Colin Howard, at Devizes Festival with the singer Gillian Tripp and at the Calne Festival with the piano quartet "Intimate Voices". Anna has performed Grieg's Piano Concerto with the North Wiltshire Orchestra, with whom she is returning to play the Schumann concerto this autumn.
