Nature's Designs - Science & Technology WOW Days - 12/06/2008

Pre-Prep and Nursery enjoyed a fun-packed three days just before the Summer half term. The theme was ‘Nature’s Designs’.

The children spent one day exploring the school grounds. Pond dipping and investigating Big Woods for mini-beasts was fun for all involved. Year 2 children spent time ‘tree shaking’ with Mr Richards and they collated their findings onto graphs. Thankfully the weather was kind to us, and gave each year group time to weed their gardens and plant new flowers.

The following days were spent designing and making a variety of items for the gardens and surrounding areas. Colourful windmills, sound chimes, wicker weavings and mobiles were the order of the day. Nursery made a very exciting scarecrow, whilst Year 1 and Year 2 made bird food and bird baths. Mr Cooper was at hand to assist with our making and creating.

Mr and Mrs Hoyland spent time reading the year groups ‘garden theme’ stories in the ‘fairy circle’ which the children thoroughly enjoyed.

As well as thinking about science and DT, children from the whole school were invited to raise money for ‘Children with Leukaemia’. Children planted wellie boots with bedding plants and made a colourful display, whilst raising almost £400.

Children dressed up in garden clothes, and as garden characters on the final day. They spent time touring around the gardens looking at each other’s work.
