Well, what a busy day this turned out to be, with almost a full set of A and B teams for both girls and boys in the senior and junior groups competing for the first time. Quite a feat all round!
The weather was sunny throughout the day…….a wonderful change to years past! It was a very hilly course, where every child acquitted themselves well. There was some heart-felt running from every pupil in every age group, with some really being able to give it full throttle. It was great to have such huge parental support on the day with the children running faster I am sure due to the shouts!
It is noteworthy that Charlotte Wordsworth ran two legs in the Junior Girls’ B team, while Flo Fletcher and Tilly Cripwell ran 2 legs each in the Senior Girls’ A race (caused by last minute illness and injury) to win the team event. Ned Corfield achieved the fastest Senior Boys’ lap and the team, also including Tom Gardener, James Whittal and Billy Tulloch, came away with first place to emulate the girls. The coaches were lost for words. Not to be outdone, the Junior Girls’ A team came in a creditable 3rd, with the team of Peyton Lloyd, Mollie Johnson, Serena O’Brien and Lily Nicholson. The Junior Girls’ B team came 7th out of 12 schools, while the Junior Boys’ A and B teams came 9th and 10th respectively.
My thanks to James Siebert and Chris King for helping out with the Pinewood officiating!
