Learning Skills

Pinewood offers excellent Learning Skills provision in its teaching expertise and resources.

Learning Skills plays an integral role at Pinewood. The department is situated at the heart of the prep school and regular, weekly time is allotted for work in the Pre-Prep. Specialist teachers generate Individual Education Plans for 1:1 pupil teaching and Pre-Prep booster groups. The department is included in all academic and pastoral meetings as well as working within the class setting to support those who need it. Individual Summaries are also generated to inform all staff of how best to support and differentiate for children within the classroom.

Staff and parents may refer children to the department if there are concerns with any aspect of classroom achievement. The Head of Learning Skills will then seek parents’ permission to assess the child. After assessment, parents and the Head of Learning Skills meet to discuss results and observations and settle on the way forward.

Sometimes further assessment is sought from outside agencies and the school is able to make recommendations to parents as well as provide space for assessments to be made in school.
