Pupils leave Pinewood for a range of top public and senior schools, and are prepared for Common Entrance and Scholarship level accordingly. The process for identifying and registering children for senior schools begins formally in Years 5 or 6. The Headmaster has extensive knowledge of senior schools and is always available for advice on which school would be suitable for your child whether at 11+ or 13+.
Pinewood has established excellent links with many senior schools, and Headmasters and Headmistresses, Housemasters and Registrars are regular visitors to the school, helping them to understand our ethos and values.
In Year 8, pupils take part in a short programme to facilitate them with the transition to senior school, and annual events for Old Pinewoodians ensure that the friendships formed at Pinewood are maintained well into senior school and beyond.
In recent years Pinewood has sent pupils to the following schools:
Abingdon, Bradfield, Bryanston, Cheltenham College, Cheltenham Ladies College, Clifton College, Cokethorpe, Dauntseys, Dean Close, Downe House, Eton, Harrow, Heathfield, Kingswood, Magdalen College School, Malvern College, Marlborough, Millfield, Milton Abbey, Monkton Combe, Oundle, Oxford High, Prior Park College, Radley, Rendcomb, St Edwards, Oxford, St Helen & St Katharine, St Mary’s Calne, Sherborne Boys, Sherborne Girls, Shrewsbury, Stowe , Tudor Hall, Westonbirt, Winchester College.
Pinewood might feel that your child is scholarship material for a senior school, either in Academic or another discipline. The work is a big step up from Common Entrance, and the external examinations are generally sat in February or March. Not surprisingly this is a competitive business, but our academic policy encourages pupils to stretch their potential. The Directors of Sport and Music as well as the Heads of Drama and Art seek to identify and prepare pupils who may be suitable for awards in these areas.
