We are now taking bookings for stalls at our enormously popular and successful Christmas Fair.
Orders MUST be in by Half-Term, Friday 22nd October. All children should by now have brought home a Northbrook Gift Wrap Fundraising brochure. Please help Friends of Pinewood to raise money for the school and local charities by placing an order.
Congratulations to all 18 children who attended the sailing course at South Cerney and passed their RYA Level 1 exam. Twelve of those children are now working towards Level 2.
A new group of children will have the opportunity to take up sailing next summer.
We were delighted to welcome Baroness Greenfield to Pinewood last week to officially open our new science labs.
Before cutting the ribbon, Baroness Greenfield spoke inspirationally to Year 6 & 7 about working in science and the increasing influence of science in all our lives. She and the other guests were then invited into a Year 8 and a Year 5 Science lesson, showing the new equipment in use.
Photos from the day can be viewed in the Events Gallery.
Congratulations to the following on being made Heads of their houses for this year:
Motcombe - Katie Meehan & Jace Reinhart
Farnborough - William Heard & Willo Corfield
Postbridge - Anthony Koch de Gooreynd & Kitty Kimber
Melchet - Jack Slater & Jemima Littlehales
(As there are no Year 8 girls in Melchet, the Year 7 girls will take it in turns to be Vice Captain, doing half a term each.)
We welcome Mrs Emily Morley-Fletcher to the Pre-Prep team as Administrative Assistant.
Emily works Monday to Friday from 8am to 12 noon and should be contacted for all general enquiries regarding the Pre-Prep or if you would like to make contact with Head of Pre-Prep, Ruth Hall. Emily can be contacted via the main school telephone number or on emf@pinewoodschool.co.uk.
As you may know Pinewood has a Choral Society. This is made up of Staff, parents, friends and some of the older children.
We meet each Thursday evening in the Music School at 6.30pm to sing and then enjoy a glass of wine together afterwards.
At the end of each term we stage a small performance.
We are looking for new members, particularily any gentlemen, as the bass and tenor sections need a boost.
If you would like to join us please reply to office@pinewoodschool.co.uk
"Booked Up" is a national programme aimed at encouraging 11 year olds to read for pleasure, run by the independent charity, Booktrust.
Every child in year 7 will be given the chance to select a free book from a list of 13 titles. All the books are on display in the Boddington library to help children choose.
To find out more about Booked Up and to view the list of books, visit the website www.bookedup.org.uk
Please note the last weekend of term: 11th/12th December is now an "in" weekend, with Saturday school. This is correct in the school calendar, but has changed since the future dates list was compiled.
We welcome the following new members of staff to Pinewood:
Mr Alan Johnson - Head of English & Drama
Mr Sam Downe - Head of Maths
Mrs Alex Preston - Headmaster's PA
Mrs Julia Delamain - School Nurse
Harry Blanshard - Gap Student
We also congratulate Mrs Mel Hughes (Miss Bailey) on her recent marriage.
Cumnor House will be on tour again this year and will be bringing hockey and rugby teams to play our U13A and 1st XV over the weekend of 27th/28th November.
The tourists will arrive on Saturday evening and we will play them on Sunday morning.
More details to follow, but do be aware that this is an exeat weekend.
Don't forget it's Bonfire Night this term and we will be holding our Bonfire party on Friday 5th November, with bonfire, fireworks, barbeque, mulled wine etc. All the family are welcome and more details will be available nearer the time.
This term we also hold the enormously popular Christmas Fair on Saturday 4th December, with stalls, Father Christmas, the FOP Bistro and more. If you are interested in taking a stall, please contact Henrietta Hoyland on hmh@pinewoodschool.co.uk.
