In their time at the School, all the children will be involved in productions, which are performed for parents and peers. Every child goes on stage with a part to play and those who have technical or artistic skills are encouraged to help behind the scenes as well. The emphasis is again on real enjoyment throughout all the stages of the production, and upon entertainment, so that performances are fresh, not over-rehearsed, and provide scope for the children to express themselves and their enthusiasm.
In December there is a Year 7/8 play, and in the Spring a Year 5/6 play. The Summer term sees the Year 3 and 4 production (and a Year 8 one-day workshop leading to a performance). Every other year a small group of Year 8’s are encouraged to take part in the Shakespeare for Schools Festival, when they will have the opportunity to perform at a local National Theatre. In Years 3 – 8 Drama is timetabled as a weekly lesson with pupils also having the opportunity to take Drama as an Activity.
