Just before Half-Term, Mr Hoyland officially opened the Friends of Pinewood Nature Trail.
Three different nature trails (Pre-Prep, Prep and whole Pinewood) have been developed around the school site encompassing the new plantation, the sports pitches and the fields and woodlands surrounding the school.
Each nature trail will ensure better use of our fantastic grounds and has been designed to suit the needs of the year groups who will be using the trail most often. In conjunction with the Science Department, pupils will increase their knowledge of different habitats on the site, be able to recognise native plant and animal species as well as have the chance to observe changing habitats throughout the year. Leavers will be able to come back and keep an eye on the trees they planted in 2011. In addition, one trail is fully cross-curricular allowing pupils to mull over Housman’s poems whilst sitting beneath the cherry tree, or consider 17th century farming techniques as they wander over the ridges and furrows on the trail.
The trails all start at the information board between the Sports Hall and the staff car park and are colour coded – please do come and try them out for yourself!
We are delighted with this new and exciting feature which will benefit everyone, keep us exploring outside and indeed make learning an adventure. We are very grateful to Friends of Pinewood for funding this project.
