Postbridge Super Heroes Day - 26/06/2008

This year Postbridge decided to put the "charity" back into Charities Day and last Friday saw an action packed Super Heroes fundraising event at Pinewood.

Postbridge were raising money for the charity Passing It On, a charity set up by Sara Griffiths' brother.  They have already raised enough money to build a primary school in Kenya: Tenderfoot School and hope to raise more money to build a secondary school.  For more information on the charity look at the website: www.passingiton.org.uk

All prep school children were divided into teams of mixed age and sex and performed 5 tasks that related to the types of every day activities carried out by people in Africa, such as racing to carry water in a bucket round the pond, carrying a basket of fruit on their heads etc.  Of course there was an element of the super hero involved and each team had to perform the Super Hero Dash, where team members took it in turns to dress as a super hero and race round a set course and back to the next team member.

All performed their tasks with enormous enthusiasm and great team spirit and it was lovely to see the different ages working together.  The most difficult task of all came at the end when the children managed to share out 60 bars of chocolate between 216 children, without squabbles or tears.  No mean feat, after 2 hours of hard slog!

Each child paid to come into school dressed either as a superhero or in home clothes.  They also paid as much as they could spare to take part in the activities.  In total the pupils raised the fantastic sum of £670.64 for Passing It On, which is more than enough to put a roof on the new school.
