Poetry Competitions

competition 18

Well done to all the finalists from Years 3-7, who took part in the recent Poetry Competitions, the standard was exceptionally high this year and it was wonderful to see the progression through the school. We are very grateful to our two adjudicators: Kate Ledlie, Head of English at Dean Close, who judged the Lower School competition, and David Evans, Senior Master at Dean Close, who judged the Year 5-7 competition.

There were no guidelines for the Lower School competition, except that the poem must be at least 10 lines long. Years 5 and 6 chose the theme of ‘Light & Dark’ for their poems, and for Year 7 the only guideline was that the poem must be a sonnet. After the Year 7 poems we were treated to performances by three Year 8 pupils, Ella Hall, Ellie Bowron and Florence von Simson, who won the competition last year.
