In the EYFS and Pre-Prep the quality of teaching is excellent. Teachers know their pupils very well and provide many exciting learning experiences for them, both within and outside the classroom. Teachers make very good use of the exceptional outside learning environment and plan exciting creative activities.

Pinewood Pre-Prep and Nursery has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where children are encouraged to enhance their full potential.
Through continual praise, support and careful nurturing by a very dedicated team, our pupils become well-rounded, inspired, happy and confident young people with a continued desire to learn and achieve their best.
The Pre-Prep and Nursery are based in their own buildings opposite the main school, giving the children the benefit of their own working environment and the ability to use the school’s wider facilities. Being outside is also an important part of life at Pinewood. We are lucky to have wonderful grounds, which include a garden, an outdoor classroom and a storytellers circle. Classrooms enjoy the advantage of learn-pads and interactive whiteboards, and there is a dedicated library. All the pupils regularly use the wider facilities of the Prep school.
With small class sizes, lots of time to play and relish childhood, as well as the fun of participating in plays, creative assemblies, themed curriculum days, sport and activities, pupils are prepared gradually for the move to the Prep school at the end of Year 2.
Pinewood Pre-Prep consists of a Nursery (3-4 years) and two parallel Reception classes (4-5 years). These children follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum and are called ‘The Early Years.’ The Pre-Prep also consists of three parallel Year 1 classes (5-6 years) and two parallel Year 2 classes (6-7 years).
The staff of Pre-Prep and Nursery are committed to creative teaching, nurturing the individual needs of pupils whilst providing a safe, loving and secure environment.
Pinewood believes that real life, active ways of developing skills, fostering emotional and social understanding, give real meaning to learning. We recognise the importance and benefits of a curriculum that extends far beyond that of a classroom driven curriculum and nowhere is this more evident than in the Pre-Prep and Early Years.
Our wonderful grounds provide varied opportunities for learning. Our garden and storytellers circle are at the heart of our outdoor classroom, and a woodland project and nature trail provides on-going opportunities to explore the natural world across all curriculum subjects. The Reception and Nursery classrooms open out onto an exciting and stimulating outdoor learning area, resourced with equipment that extends the Early Years curriculum.
The Pre-Prep Community
Parents and pupils’ families are an important part of the Pinewood community and are welcome to see the children in action in special assemblies, plays and on sports day. Staff are always happy to find time to talk to parents. There are also regular opportunities throughout the year for parents to be involved with school life.
A range of assemblies are held each day throughout the week. These include a weekly assembly led by the Headmaster and the Head of Pre-Prep, and a fortnightly assembly led by the Head of Middle School. At the start of every term, pupils join the Prep School for a special Headmaster’s Assembly, where staff and pupils from the whole school sing the school hymn and celebrate being part of Pinewood.
