Just before Half-Term a group of Year 6 pupils (Max, Bella, Rohan , Constance, Edward and Lucia) went to Abingdon School with Mr Downe for a business challenge. We were against eight other schools and had so much fun.
Firstly, when we arrived, we had a logo quiz, and then we were given instructions to design our own shower gel. Ours was called Hawaiian Paradise and the ingredients were coconut oil, eucalyptus oil and passion fruit. We had a sixth former called Sean helping us design and prepare our pitch for the judges later on.
Our product was in the shape of a coconut shell and had a fun squeezy dispenser straw. Our slogan was “Get The Hawaiian Happy Scent”. Each person had their own role for the presentation to the judges: Max and Rohan were doing marketing and price and our price for the product was £3.99; Lucia and Edward talked about the design and the logo; and Bella and Constance talked about the ingredients and how much we put in it and why we used these ingredients.
We all put together a poster about the product and had to fill in some sheets for the judges. It was just like the real Dragon’s Den! After we did this we started to put together our pitch for the other schools and the judges. Sean helped us with this and gave us lots of useful tips; he was really kind and we were very thankful and lucky to have him as our helper. After a quick practice it was time to perform our pitch. We were all so nervous, but when we got up on stage it felt normal and we all really enjoyed it.
As the judges were deciding the winners, every school had a marketing quiz which involved name the logo and name the slogans. After a worrying wait it was time to hear the results! We all had feedback on our designs: the judges gave everyone some good feedback and some schools had constructive criticism and then they announced the winners there was one runner up and one winner. Pinewood came runner up and received as our prize a maths set!
We all had a really great day and learnt a lot. Thank you Mr Downe for a really fun trip and thank you Abingdon for a great experience and a really enjoyable day!
