The process for identifying and registering children for senior schools begins formally in Years 5 or 6. The Headmaster and Head of Middle School have extensive knowledge of senior schools and are always available for advice on which school would be suitable for your child.
A Senior School Fair and Senior School Head Teachers’ Forum are organised at Pinewood to facilitate parent research.
A considerable number of senior schools require applicants to complete the ISEB Common Pre-Test as part of the admissions process. This is usually completed by pupils at Pinewood in the Autumn Term of Year 6 after a thorough programme of familiarisation classes.
Before they leave us, pupils take part in a short programme to facilitate them with the transition to senior school.

Scholarships in Sport, Art, Music and Drama, as well as Academic to senior schools are supported in Years 7 and 8, with the assessments taking place in the Autumn or Spring Term of Year 8. Art, Sport, Music and Drama potential scholars begin the process towards scholarship in the Summer Term of Year 7, attending a weekly enrichment session. The path for potential Academic scholarship (English, Maths, Science, French, Latin, History, Geography and TPE) is through the top academic set in Year 7, and a meeting in the Summer Term of Year 7 outlines this competitive path to parents. The work is challenging and encourages pupils to stretch their potential, with examinations taken at senior schools usually between February and March in Year 8.
