We are delighted to share Pinewood School’s latest Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspection report. The ISI conducted their inspection of the school in November 2025, and we are proud to report that Pinewood met all of the ISI standards required.
The report is an exceptionally positive reflection of Pinewood School and we are immensely proud of what it says about our community, our values and, most importantly, our pupils.
The inspectors recognised “a nurturing atmosphere in which kindness permeates through the positive interactions between staff and pupils.” Pinewood was praised as creating a stimulating environment in which individuals are valued, their successes are celebrated and achievements beyond academic outcomes are recognised and encouraged. The report noted that “leaders recognise achievements beyond academic outcomes” and that “the positive relationships between staff and pupils have a beneficial impact on pupils’ confidence and self-esteem because they are nurtured and recognised.”
We are especially proud that we have been awarded the rare accolade of a “Significant Strength”, the highest commendation available under the current ISI framework for our pupils’ deep understanding of themselves as learners. The inspectors praised Pinewood’s approach to pupil development, stating:
SIGNIFICANT STRENGTH
“Leaders implement an extremely effective system of providing feedback for pupils on how to improve … Pupils consistently follow up on their targets, and make tangible progress in their learning. This enables pupils to have an in-depth understanding of themselves as learners and to develop confidence in their ability to continue to improve.”
Children develop confidence in their own ability to improve, supported by a “culture of continuous improvement”. Through reflective practice and evaluative analysis of pupils’ outcomes, all standards are consistently met, ensuring that every child is supported to reach their full potential.
The report highlights the strength of our broad and dynamic curriculum, described as “an engaging and ambitious curriculum encompassing the school’s values of respect, curiosity and perseverance.” Pupils develop their creative skills, learn about self-expression and imagination, and are encouraged to build a lifelong involvement in physical activity. Effective strategies are in place to support pupils who require additional help, ensuring that all children feel included and able to thrive.
Inspectors commented that pupils are well prepared for their future lives and are encouraged to become good citizens. They do this by understanding the importance of mutual respect and kindness, demonstrate excellent behaviour and feel confident to speak openly with staff if they have any concerns. Leaders were praised for being responsive to pupils’ views about how the school can continue to improve, reinforcing our open and listening culture.
Safeguarding was recognised as robust and effective, with inspectors noting that:
“Staff understand that safeguarding is a collective responsibility.”
Attention to detail in health and safety arrangements ensures that pupils feel secure and well cared for at all times. The inspectors also commended the collaborative and effective way in which governors work alongside school leaders to support and challenge the school.
Ultimately, this report captures so many of the qualities that define a Pinewood education: a caring, nurturing and ambitious environment where pupils are known, valued and supported to flourish. We are absolutely delighted with the findings and extremely proud of our staff and pupils.
We would like to thank our Pinewood families very much for your continued support and for your thoughtful contributions through the inspection surveys. Your partnership plays a vital role in all that we do, and we are enormously grateful.
