In celebration of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday, we undertook a fitting tribute at Pinewood: a pupil-led initiative that turned admiration into meaningful environmental action.

100 Voices for Nature was inspired by Year 4 pupil Bea J, whose earlier correspondence with Sir David Attenborough sparked an idea that was quickly embraced by our Eco-Committee. The aim was simple yet profound: 100 individual ‘Challenges for Nature’, each reflecting a pupil’s personal contribution to the stewardship of our natural world.

The response from our pupils was exceptional. Children across the school engaged with creativity and purpose, undertaking projects ranging from habitat creation to local conservation. We have carefully documented these efforts on display boards in the main hall, creating a visible collective narrative of environmental responsibility within our school community.

While many activities centred on our local Wiltshire landscape, the spirit of the project extended much further. Incredibly, Joe R took our 100 Voices for Nature campaign all the way to New York. He addressed environmental concerns during Earth Day events in Times Square as part of his role as a climate campaigner, author and OMMMbassador for a US-based organisation called OMMM, beautifully exemplifying the confidence and global outlook we strive to nurture at Pinewood.

To commemorate the occasion, we sent a curated record of these efforts – accompanied by a selection of photographs and a collective birthday message – to Sir David Attenborough’s home. This gesture reflects both our gratitude for his lifelong work and our shared commitment to continuing his legacy.

Set within our 84 acres of woodland, plantation, and water habitats, Pinewood provides a rich environment in which this ethos can flourish. Through 100 Voices for Nature, our pupils have demonstrated not only their respect for Sir David Attenborough, but their readiness to protect the natural world for generations to come.
